It’s time to celebrate the First Annual National Sew A Jelly Roll Day Celebration with Fat Quarter Shop! This event by Moda falls on the third Saturday of September, and this year, that’s September 16th!

I had the pleasure of working with Little Ruby by Bonnie & Camille for Moda Fabrics. The prints are so sweet and make me so happy!

Fat Quarter Shop has a bunch of great jelly roll patterns, and the one I chose to work with was the Jelly Roll Twist Pattern. It’s a free super fun and quick pattern that comes together in a jiffy! There’s even a video quilt tutorial with Kimberly that you can find here.

I wanted to go with the flow and matched up strips and blocks as I went turning them this way and that way according to the pattern. It was very liberating to not have to agonize about the placement of each fabric and just have fun fun fun!

Making this pattern you end up with scrappy strips and so while piecing the back I wanted to incorporate them and ended up with this.

A few close ups! I can’t believe it took me soooooo long to play with the wavy stitch on my Bernina! Now I’m hooked! I used Lecien Cosmo’s Tsu Mu Gi thread in 40wt for the piecing and quilting.

I used Bella Solids Bleached White 9900-97 for the white squares.

And Bella Solids Aqua 9900-34 for the backing and binding. As always, I used Warm and Natural batting.

I hope you give this pattern a go if you have a jelly roll and a charm pack waiting to be used at home! And we’ve all got jelly rolls just sitting around, right? I know I do! 🙂 Fat Quarter Shop has a blog post up with links to all the other awesome bloggers that made quilts from their jelly roll friendly patterns here, and as soon as my coffee is ready, I’ll be catching up with their blogs!

Until next time friends!

xx, elise
